The first act of the opera takes place in the backstage of a theatre, where artists, who are preparing to go on stage, can watch the performance that is happening next to them. The set is composed of hundreds of three-sided columns, and at every act, these panels rotate as a clock and a new side is revealed to the audience. The space between the columns allows the light to invade the entire set, creating a more ethereal density on stage.
